Video Indexing Report - GSC
Google has added new features to its tool to assist video creators to rank their videos on top of SERP in Google Search Engine by Indexing them.
Video Indexing is the process of extracting information from the videos and presenting appropriate videos to the users on search engines.
Consumption of video content has grown leaps and bounds over the last decade. It has become prominent for Search Engines to present the right video content to their users. To provide relatable videos to the users for a particular search term the search engine bots have to index those videos which is similar to indexing a webpage. Google has added a new feature on Google Search Console which can help you to index your videos. This feature also helps understand the performance of the videos in the Google Search Engine. This feature is known as Video Indexing Report. And, it will be rolled out gradually over the next few months.
Video Indexing Report
This option will be available only if Google has detected a video on your website. The video index report will be in the coverage section of the Google Search Console. This indexing report provides information on the status of the index report along with the following:
- In how many pages has Google identified a video?
- Which videos were indexed successfully?
- What are the issues preventing videos from being indexed?
You can also use this report to fix existing issues on the videos and track the performance of those video pages in the google index. Please note that this report is different from the Video rich report.
Google has also updated the URL Inspection tool with the ability to check the video indexing status of a specific page. Also, this provides the following information if Google detects a video on a page:
- Details such as the video URL
- The thumbnail URL.
- The page status shows whether the video was indexed or not.
- Issues preventing the video from being indexed.
The following practices can help to index your videos on the Google Search Engine.
- Ensure that the video you want to index is available on the webpage for the users.
- Make sure that the video isn't blocked from indexing.
- Google can easily identify the video using an HTML tag so ensure you use the appropriate HTML tag in a video.
- Submit a Video Sitemap.
- Google recommends using a standalone page for each video with a descriptive title or description unique to each video.
- Ensure you have a dedicated page for videos.
- Make sure that the videos are prominent on the page and aren't hidden or difficult to find for the users.
- Provide a High-Quality Thumbnail minimum of 60*30px.
